Brussels:The EU Council has officially adopted temporary measures to liberalize trade for Armenian products in response to recent trade restrictions imposed by Russia.

According to Anadolu Agency, these measures will suspend import duties on approximately 80% of Armenian exports to the EU, including certain agricultural products, and will be effective for two years. The arrangement includes conditions and safeguard measures to protect EU producers if imports negatively impact the EU market.

This initiative aims to support trade flows from Armenia to the EU and strengthen bilateral economic ties under the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement. The European Parliament approved the European Commission's proposal without amendments, facilitating the final adoption of these measures.

Irish Foreign Minister and Trade Minister Helen McEntee emphasized the EU's support for Armenia, stating that the decision will aid Armenia's economy, which has been affected by trade restrictions. European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos also welcomed the measures, highlighting that they allow 80% of Armenian products to enter the EU without tariffs as a response to Russia's actions against Armenian producers.

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna expressed that stronger trade relations would enhance Armenia's economic resilience and foster deeper connections with the EU, creating new growth and cooperation opportunities. The regulation will be signed and published in the Official Journal of the EU, coming into force the day after publication.
