Ankara:The head of Hamas' political bureau has announced that the group has proposed to mediate in the conflict in Yemen and is awaiting a response from the involved parties.

According to Anadolu Agency, Khalil al-Hayya, in his first televised interview since assuming his position in July, stated that Hamas has already submitted its mediation proposal. Al-Hayya expressed hope that the warring sides would accept this offer.

The ongoing conflict in Yemen saw a resurgence in July after a truce held since 2022. The Houthis, who seized control of Yemens capital Sanaa in 2014, reignited hostilities by imposing a blockade on Saudi shipping in the Red Sea. They have since reported coastal advances against the Saudi-led coalition.

Al-Hayya also disclosed that Hamas leaders have engaged in discussions with U.S. officials more than four times since last year, focusing on issues related to Palestine, the Gaza Strip, and Palestinian demands. He noted a sense of understanding from the Americans, both privately and publicly, but called for concrete actions.

He emphasized the need to implement the Gaza roadmap and accused Israel of hindering Arab and Muslim efforts to aid Gaza. Regarding Palestinian reconciliation, al-Hayya stated Hamas's readiness to meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to establish a national program and political unity.

He highlighted the significance of the upcoming November elections for restoring unity among Gaza, the occupied West Bank, and East Jerusalem. However, if the elections are delayed, he mentioned that the current political alliance would remain open to other factions to build a broader national framework.

Al-Hayya cautioned that the Palestinian cause is being overshadowed by regional conflicts and crises, accusing Israel of squandering opportunities for resolution. He asserted that regional stability would be unattainable without Palestinians achieving their rights and establishing a state, and he vowed to resist any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians from their land.
