Ankara:Southern Lebanon Israeli airstrikes hit several areas in southern Lebanon early Sunday, as tensions continue despite a US-brokered framework agreement signed in June. The Israeli army targeted towns in the districts of Tyre, Nabatieh, Marjayoun, and Bint Jbeil.

According to Anadolu Agency, the state news agency NNA reported that the attacks affected multiple towns including Mansouri, Wadi Zibqin, Nabatieh al-Fawqa, Kfar Tibnit, Mayfadoun, Kafr Rumman, Mazraat al-Shomeriya, Al-Qusayr, Beit Yahoun, Safarin, and Hadatha.

In Tyre's Mansouri, several homes were demolished by Israeli forces, while Wadi Zibqin experienced artillery fire and heavy-machine-gun fire. In Nabatieh, airstrikes hit Nabatieh al-Fawqa twice, the outskirts of Kfar Tibnit, and Mayfadoun, where a house was destroyed.

Artillery fire also targeted Doha Kafr Rumman in Nabatieh. In Marjayoun, the outskirts of Mazraat al-Shomeriya and Al-Qusayr were shelled. Israeli forces used machine-gun fire in Beit Yahoun and Safarin, and an Israeli tank fired four shells at Hadatha, subsequently advancing toward the town center and setting fire to the area.

The Israeli army stated on the social media platform X that these actions were in retaliation for a Hezbollah explosive-laden drone launched on Saturday toward Israeli forces in the 'security zone' in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah has not responded to these claims.

Military operations by Israel in Lebanon have been ongoing since March 2, reportedly resulting in at least 4,386 deaths, 12,407 injuries, and the displacement of over 1 million people, as per Lebanese authorities. The recent attacks challenge the framework agreement which aims for a gradual Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territories in exchange for the deployment of the Lebanese army and the disarmament of Hezbollah.
