Ankara:Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the country is ready to engage in negotiations with the United States but remains fully prepared for military conflict in response to any renewed US attacks. This announcement came as Araghchi detailed a seven-day proposal which includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz, provided that the US meets certain conditions set by Tehran.

According to Anadolu Agency, Araghchi emphasized that despite hearing US President Donald Trump reject the proposal, Iran is still waiting for an official response through mediators. He outlined that Tehran would reopen the strait if the US ends the war, releases frozen Iranian assets, removes the blockade, and allows Iran to sell its oil. The proposal suggests that the US could accomplish these steps within four or five days, leading to the reopening of the strait on day six, followed by negotiations on a final agreement on day seven.

The Strait of Hormuz has been effectively closed by Iran since US-Israeli attacks in February and a subsequent maritime blockade. Araghchi expressed distrust towards negotiations with the Trump administration, citing past incidents where the US allegedly attacked Iran during talks and violated agreements shortly after they were signed. Despite this, Araghchi maintained hope for diplomacy, albeit with caution.

Araghchi also addressed questions about Iran's nuclear program, reaffirming its peaceful intentions, including medical uses. He expressed willingness to negotiate over Iran's 60%-enriched material and emphasized resolving nuclear issues through diplomacy rather than military action. Additionally, he mentioned security concerns as the reason Iran's supreme leader has not appeared publicly on video since March, citing potential threats from the US. Araghchi denied any internal power struggles, affirming that the Foreign Ministry works in coordination with other national bodies.
