Ankara:Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is accused of actively preventing the formation of an official commission of inquiry into the events of October 7, 2023, according to former military intelligence officer Barak Seri.
According to Anadolu Agency, Seri stated in a post on the social media platform X that Netanyahu was "warned and alerted" prior to the attacks but chose to ignore these warnings. Seri claims this is the reason Netanyahu is personally obstructing the inquiry commission's establishment.
Earlier reports from the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth indicated that Netanyahu had received alerts about a potential Hamas attack before October 7, 2023, but failed to convene a meeting to address them. Citing unnamed security officials, the newspaper reported that Netanyahu did not share these warnings with the Shin Bet, Mossad, or the Military Intelligence Directorate, Aman.
Additionally, The Atlantic magazine reported that former Egyptian intelligence chief Abbas Kamel had visited Israel secretly 11 days before October 7 to warn Tel Aviv about a possible Hamas attack. However, there has been no official comment from Egypt regarding this claim.
In the aftermath of the October 7 events, Israel launched a significant offensive on the Gaza Strip, resulting in nearly 74,000 deaths, around 175,000 injuries, and substantial destruction across the enclave. Despite a ceasefire initiated in October 2025, Israel has continued its daily attacks on Gaza, leading to the deaths of more than 1,400 Palestinians and injuries to nearly 5,000 others, as reported by Gaza's Health Ministry.
