FIFA President Supports Increased Funding for Member Associations

Ankara:FIFA President Gianni Infantino has expressed support for increasing financial distributions to member associations from FIFA's $6 billion reserves.

According to Anadolu Agency, Infantino informed the presidents of FIFA's six continental confederations that the FIFA Council would consider proposals for additional funding at its meeting on October 15. This move comes after requests for increased funding from UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin, Concacaf President Victor Montagliani, and Asian Football Confederation President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa.

Infantino stated that he would support the highest level of additional funding that could be responsibly provided through FIFA's governance processes, ensuring fairness and transparency. Ceferin and Montagliani have suggested that FIFA should release at least $10 million to each of its 211 member associations during the 2027-30 cycle, in addition to the existing FIFA Forward funding.

Infantino has tasked FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafstrom with consolidating these proposals into a single assessment for the upcoming meeting. Ceferin, Montagliani, and Shaikh Salman have been asked to provide detailed financial models and supporting information. Infantino emphasized that while a single figure could initiate discussions, it would not suffice for establishing a global policy.

Previously, Infantino faced opposition over the now-withdrawn FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal, which involved selling a stake in a company managing FIFA's commercial rights. Recently, he sent a letter to FIFA Council members and all 211 member associations, indicating his willingness to engage in dialogue about reforms within FIFA. Infantino is the only candidate for the upcoming FIFA presidential election, with a deadline for other candidates set for November 18.
