Washington:The US Treasury Department has announced sanctions on ten individuals and entities across various jurisdictions for allegedly procuring weapons and components for Iran's Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics (MODAFL). According to Anadolu Agency, the sanctions target those involved in supporting Iran's military capabilities. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent emphasized the department's commitment to isolating Iran's enablers, stating that support for the regime will not be tolerated. The MODAFL is responsible for weapons research, production, and acquisition for Iran's armed forces, and it oversees the development of ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles. Among those sanctioned is Seyyed Asghar Alizadeh Tabatabai, identified as a MODAFL representative in Beijing who is involved in procuring finished weapons systems and dual-use components from China for Iran.
