Amnesty International Condemns Police Violence Against French Students

Paris:Amnesty International France has expressed serious concerns over police violence directed at French high school students participating in protests for improved learning conditions.

According to Anadolu Agency, Amnesty International highlighted alarming incidents of violence against minors, emphasizing the need for their protection rather than subjection to police force. The organization criticized the high number of arrests and stressed that any use of force must be proportionate, even if some protesters resorted to violence.

Amnesty reported specific incidents, including a 14-year-old who lost several teeth after being struck by a grenade and a 14-year-old girl who was violently grabbed by the neck by a police officer. The group underscored that such actions contravene international law, which dictates that arrests of minors should only be a last resort.

The organization called for authorities to engage in dialogue and de-escalation instead of resorting to weapons, asserting that students peacefully advocating for their educational rights should not be labeled as troublemakers. Amnesty vowed ongoing support for those who peacefully protest for their rights, advocating for young voices to be heard rather than suppressed.
