Yemeni Army Executes 71 Operations Against Houthis in Taiz

Taiz:The Yemeni army reported on Saturday that it conducted 71 operations targeting Houthi positions in the southwestern province of Taiz.

According to Anadolu Agency, army spokesman Col. Majed Abdullah al-Nuzaili stated that these operations were precise targeting efforts against combat gatherings, military buildups, and reinforcements of the Houthi militia. The areas targeted included al-Aqrood, Sama', al-Ahkum, al-Akboush, Jabal Rasin, Jabal Jardad, Bani Omar, Bani Bakari, al-Kaawash, and al-Athawir.

The operations resulted in the destruction of several hostile transport and support vehicles and neutralized some militia members, impacting their ability to continue fighting. However, the spokesman did not specify the number of casualties.

The Houthi group has not commented on the army's statement. This military action comes amid escalating tensions in the Taiz Governorate between government forces and the Houthi group.

On Friday, Houthi artillery shelling injured six civilians, including two children and a woman, in residential neighborhoods of central Taiz, as reported by Yemen's state-run news agency Saba. Additionally, heavy clashes erupted between the Yemeni army and the Houthis on the northern front of Taiz city. The army also launched numerous airstrikes against Houthi movements and positions across the governorate.

Furthermore, Yemen's Interior Ministry announced that Mohammed al-Khawlani, the chief of staff of the ministry's Emergency Forces Brigade, was killed in clashes with the Houthis on the al-Kadha front in Taiz. These hostilities are part of a broader military escalation that began in July, marking the most significant conflict since the April 2022 truce.
