New Alamein:The leaders of Egypt, Eritrea, Somalia, and Sudan are set to convene in the northern Egyptian city of New Alamein on Sunday for a four-way summit to address regional developments against the backdrop of the ongoing conflict in northern Ethiopia.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Egyptian presidency announced that the summit aims to facilitate consultation and coordination on regional issues of mutual concern. Attending the summit will be Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki, Somalian President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and Sudan's Sovereign Council Chairman Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.
The meeting follows a deterioration in diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and Eritrea, as well as the mutual expulsion of diplomats between Egypt and Ethiopia. Fighting has resumed between Ethiopian federal forces and the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) alliance, with hostilities extending into southern Tigray and the Afar region. The summit aims to address these escalating regional tensions.
