Eurasian Economic Union Leaders Discuss Integration in Belarus

Minsk:The prime ministers of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member states gathered in Belarus on Friday for a meeting of the organization's Intergovernmental Council.

According to Anadolu Agency, the meeting, held in Minsk, began with a narrow format and later included the participation of the prime ministers of Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, and Russia. The chairman of Kyrgyzstan's Cabinet of Ministers also participated, while Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan joined via videoconference. Additionally, Uzbekistan's prime minister and the ambassadors of Cuba and Iran attended as representatives of observer states.

The council discussed various issues related to Eurasian economic integration, such as trade, customs administration, transport infrastructure, industrial cooperation, and the establishment of common energy markets. The development of transport infrastructure along the East-West and North-South corridors was reviewed, particularly in alignment with China's Belt and Road Initiative.

The leaders were informed about the progress in electronic document management systems at maritime checkpoints among EAEU member states. Amendments were made to the list of priority integration infrastructure projects, including the development of the Nevel-Dno-Luga-Gatchina railway corridor in northwestern Russia.

The council approved decisions regarding the creation of a common electricity market and announced that the next meeting is scheduled to take place in Moscow in December.
