Egypt and Sudan Leaders Discuss Efforts to End Conflict

El-Alamein:Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi held talks with Sudan's Transitional Sovereignty Council Chairman Abdel Fattah al-Burhan to address developments in Sudan and efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict.

According to Anadolu Agency, the meeting took place in the northern Egyptian city of El-Alamein and focused on strengthening bilateral relations. The Egyptian presidency noted Sisi's reaffirmation of support for Sudan's unity, sovereignty, and national institutions. Sisi emphasized Egypt's commitment to pursuing a political solution to end the war and alleviate humanitarian suffering in Sudan.

Burhan expressed gratitude for Egypt's support, highlighting its political and humanitarian assistance. He also appreciated Egypt's role in hosting a large number of Sudanese refugees. Burhan stressed the importance of distinguishing between Sudan's legitimate state institutions and rebel militias.

The leaders discussed expanding cooperation, with Sisi confirming Egypt's dedication to supporting Sudan across various sectors. The meeting occurred alongside the African Union's eighth midyear coordination meeting in New Alamein. Burhan attended a 4-way summit with leaders from Egypt, Eritrea, and Somalia to discuss regional issues and promote peace, stability, and regional integration.

The gathering comes amid rising regional diplomatic tensions involving Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Egypt, including a breakdown in Ethiopian-Eritrean relations and diplomatic expulsions between Cairo and Addis Ababa.
