Tom Cruise’s ‘Digger’ Faces Disappointing Box-Office Debut

Ankara:First paragraph of the news story.

According to Anadolu Agency, Tom Cruise's latest film, "Digger," experienced one of the poorest box-office debuts of his career, earning just $20 million globally during its opening weekend. The Warner Bros. satire, directed by Alejandro G. Inarritu, grossed $8 million in North America and an additional $12 million from international markets.

Inarritu, acclaimed for winning consecutive Academy Awards for Best Director with "Birdman" in 2015 and "The Revenant" in 2016, faced a challenging release with "Digger." The film's underperformance may lead to significant financial losses for Warner Bros., as production costs were at least $125 million, with some estimates closer to $150 million, plus an estimated $100 million spent on marketing.

"Digger" received mixed to negative reviews prior to its release, prompting Warner Bros. to launch an unusual marketing campaign urging audiences to "decide for yourself." Despite the early signs of lackluster box-office performance, Cruise expressed his pride in the film via social media.

"Digger is officially in theaters, and I am so honored to have had the opportunity to create this film alongside such talented artists," Cruise stated. "Thank you to the entire cast and crew for your dedication, hard work, and joy. The experience was truly unforgettable, and I'm so proud of what we created."

At 64, Cruise remains a prominent box-office draw in Hollywood, with successful franchises like "Mission: Impossible" and "Top Gun: Maverick" bolstering his reputation.
