Jakarta:Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has issued a warning that the country's sovereignty is under threat due to the theft of natural resources and smuggling activities.
According to Anadolu Agency, Prabowo addressed soldiers and officers at the Cilangkap headquarters in East Jakarta during the Indonesian military's 81st anniversary celebration. He emphasized that threats to the nation are no longer confined to physical attacks but also include narcotics smuggling and rampant misinformation that harms the economy.
Prabowo urged the armed forces to adapt to these evolving challenges by emphasizing the importance of continuous learning and practice. This comes as the Defense Ministry contemplates a $10.4 billion expenditure this year, primarily focusing on military modernization.
He reaffirmed Indonesia's commitment to peace, stating that the nation respects all countries and powers, and desires to protect its people, land, and resources to ensure prosperity. Prabowo has been advocating for tighter economic controls following reports of substantial financial losses from fraudulent trade practices in mineral-rich Indonesia, totaling $908 billion over several decades.
