Ankara:Portuguese Football Federation President Pedro Proenca has indicated that Cristiano Ronaldo could return to the national team, describing the conflict with head coach Jorge Jesus as a "misunderstanding."
According to Anadolu Agency, Proenca expressed that Ronaldo remains a significant part of Portugal's heritage and could be included in the team if the coach desires. Following Portugal's 2-1 Nations League victory over Norway, Proenca emphasized Ronaldo's contributions, stating he is included based on his sporting merit.
Proenca aimed to downplay the controversy surrounding Ronaldo, insisting that the issue should be handled internally. He reiterated that Ronaldo is a crucial part of the team and that head coach Jorge Jesus considers him an important player.
Jorge Jesus also mentioned that the decision to return to the national team lies with Ronaldo. After the match against Norway, Jesus said they could discuss before the next call-up, but ultimately, Ronaldo would make the choice. Jesus has communicated to Ronaldo his desire for him to remain close to the team, regardless of his playing status.
Ronaldo left the training camp last Wednesday after learning he would not start against Denmark, having been an unused substitute in the previous game against Norway. He has stated that he will provide an explanation for his departure at a later time.
