Panamanian-Flagged Vessel Catches Fire After Attack Off Oman

Musandam:A commercial vessel registered under the Panamanian flag was attacked near Oman's Musandam Governorate on Tuesday, resulting in a fire and necessitating the evacuation of 10 crew members, as reported by the Omani Defense Ministry.

According to Anadolu Agency, the vessel, named ON PEACE, was attacked approximately nine nautical miles northeast of Lima in the Musandam area, which overlooks the crucial Strait of Hormuz.

Following the incident, the Royal Oman Air Force, in collaboration with relevant authorities, conducted a medical evacuation of the affected crew. The crew members were subsequently transported to Khasab Hospital in Musandam for medical treatment.

The Omani Defense Ministry did not provide details regarding the nature of the attack, the health status of the crew members, or identify those responsible for the incident.

This event took place near the Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime corridor connecting the Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea, with the Omani coastline opposite Iran. The strait is a focal point in the ongoing conflict between the US and Iran and has been the site of several maritime attacks in recent months.
