Antalya:Turkish defense firm Roketsan is actively engaging in high-level discussions with international space agencies and aerospace companies to secure partnerships in launch systems and orbital technologies. These efforts aim to ensure Turkey's independent access to space, as highlighted at the 77th International Astronautical Congress (IAC).
According to Anadolu Agency, Roketsan CEO Murat Ikinci emphasized the firm's advancements with the Simsek-1 system, designed to launch payloads of 400 kilograms into orbit. Additionally, the heavier Simsek-2 system is being developed to carry 1.5-ton satellites.
Ikinci also mentioned that Roketsan is conducting significant talks with global space entities about their subsystems and payloads. The company has developed numerous subsystems including space engines, liquid-fueled propulsion systems, solid-fueled boosters, and space-qualified navigation systems for orientation and control. These technologies are complemented by maneuvering technologies, gas-powered propulsion systems, and navigation and control systems.
The CEO highlighted the importance of domestic research for building Turkey's space infrastructure, citing the reluctance of major spacefaring countries to share rocket and propulsion technologies. Despite this, Roketsan collaborates with universities and local defense suppliers and is attending the congress to seek global partners for future launch vehicles. These partnerships are expected to enhance the orbital capabilities of both Turkey and its collaborators.
The IAC 2026, co-hosted by the Turkish Space Agency (TUA) and the SAHA Istanbul defense cluster, and organized by the Industry and Technology Ministry, commenced on Monday and will continue until Friday. Anadolu Agency is serving as the global communications partner for the event.
