UN Secretary-General Visits UNMOGIP in Islamabad

Islamabad:UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres visited the Islamabad headquarters of the UN Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) on Tuesday.

According to Anadolu Agency, Guterres addressed the mission, acknowledging the challenging political environment in which it operates and the difficult mandate it must fulfill. He highlighted the mission's dedication and professionalism, particularly during the cross-border conflict between India and Pakistan last May, which concluded with a ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump.

Guterres expressed gratitude for the mission's significant role in maintaining stability in the region, which he recognized as a challenging task. He praised the mission's critical presence on both sides of the Line of Control. The UNMOGIP was established in 1949 to monitor the ceasefire between India and Pakistan in the Kashmir region.
