Houthi Shelling in Taiz Province Results in Civilian Casualties

Taiz:At least six civilians lost their lives and four others were injured due to Houthi shelling in residential villages south of Yemen's Taiz province, state media reported.

According to Anadolu Agency, a woman was among those killed, and four civilians, including a child and two women, were injured in the villages of Al-Doum, Hujrah, and Al-Manawid within the Bani Yusuf area of the Al-Mawasit district.

Additionally, in the Al-Misrakh district, a Houthi-fired mortar shell hit a family home in the village of Al-Sarm, resulting in the deaths of a man, his wife, daughter, son's wife, and her children. Local sources have also reported ongoing shelling in the Quds area, but further casualties were not specified.

The shelling has reportedly surrounded several villages, hindering residents and the injured from accessing medical assistance. There has been no response from the Houthis regarding these incidents.

These events occur amidst intensified fighting across Taiz, with the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council recently launching Operation Dawn of Yemen to reclaim control and state institutions from the Houthis. Government forces have reported regaining strategic locations, including the city of Mokha and the Bab el-Mandeb area.

The conflict in Yemen has persisted since 2014, following the Houthi takeover of the capital Sanaa, which led to a Saudi-led coalition intervention in support of the Yemeni government in 2015.
