GCC Calls for Strong Response to Houthi Attacks on Saudi Arabia

Riyadh:The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has urged an international response to recent attacks by Yemen's Houthi group on Saudi Arabia, emphasizing unity with the kingdom against threats to its security and sovereignty.

According to Anadolu Agency, GCC Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi condemned the attacks on Abha International Airport and King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, which resulted in civilian casualties.

Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation reported that three individuals were killed and 36 others injured in these incidents. The attacks occurred over Tuesday and Wednesday.

Albudaiwi described the targeting of civilian airports and the endangerment of passengers, workers, and other civilians as a serious escalation and a violation of international laws and norms. He stressed that these actions necessitate a firm international stance to prevent further threats to regional and international security.

The GCC's secretary-general reiterated that member states fully support Saudi Arabia and its measures to protect its territory, security, and sovereignty. Meanwhile, the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen reported intercepting and destroying a ballistic missile launched by the Houthis north of Riyadh.

These events occur amidst intensified conflict in Yemen, with increased Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and a corresponding escalation in military operations by the Saudi-led coalition against Houthi positions. Saudi Arabia has been leading a coalition in support of Yemen's internationally recognized government against the Houthis since March 2015.
