Lisbon:US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that Washington will persist in efforts to broker a negotiated settlement to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.

According to Anadolu Agency, Rubio made the statement during a press appearance in Lisbon with Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel. He emphasized the US commitment to facilitating a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.

Rubio, speaking during the final stop of his European tour, expressed concern over the current deadlock in the war, warning that it can only be resolved through diplomacy or potentially expanded conflict. He highlighted the risk that attempts to break the military standoff could lead to a 'sabotage campaign' in neighboring NATO member states or broader strikes, escalating into a more dangerous regional conflict.

He reiterated that the US does not see a military solution to the conflict, urging both parties to engage in negotiations. Rubio also reaffirmed Washington's willingness to assist in talks but noted that the US will not engage in processes that do not promise progress.
