Moscow:Russia has summoned the Belgian ambassador to discuss what it describes as "unsubstantiated" claims of threats to Belgium and Europe. The Russian Foreign Ministry has expressed its rejection of what it terms as "increasingly frequent" accusations from Belgium's military and political leaders regarding hybrid, subversive, and direct military threats allegedly posed by Russia.
According to Anadolu Agency, the ministry warned that "aggressive statements" portraying Russia as an adversary could escalate tensions, potentially spiraling the confrontation out of control. Russia urged Belgium to reconsider its remarks and "tone down its anti-Russian rhetoric," which it claims is exacerbating tensions across Europe.
Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken recently warned that Europe should brace for further Russian "hybrid attacks" in the coming months, suggesting that the continent faces a "dark winter." He labeled Russia as "the greatest threat" to the security of Belgium and Europe, advocating for stronger European air defenses.
