Varna:The UN condemned recent drone attacks on commercial shipping vessels in the Black Sea, raising concerns about the growing risks to global food supply chains and maritime crews.
According to Anadolu Agency, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric expressed the organization's strong disapproval of the attacks, highlighting a recent incident off the coast of Bulgaria. He warned that these assaults on ships carrying grain and essential commodities are affecting the worldwide prices of these goods.
Dujarric also compared the situation in the Black Sea to increased maritime dangers in the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz. He emphasized the international community's debt of gratitude to seafarers who continue to operate under such dangerous conditions to maintain global trade.
Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev reported that the Maltese-flagged vessel Chelsea 3 issued a distress call after being hit by three drones 18 nautical miles east of Byala. All 15 crew members from the Ukrainian-owned ship were safely evacuated to Varna. Another vessel was also attacked 17 nautical miles east of Krapets, resulting in its sinking, with one sailor being rescued.
