Zelenskyy Criticizes Starlink Speed Restrictions and US-Russia Diesel Deal

Brussels:Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed concerns over speed restrictions on the Starlink system, saying they hamper Ukraine's military and humanitarian efforts. While the system has not been completely turned off in Ukraine, these limitations hinder its use for certain operations.

According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy discussed these issues during a briefing at the EU leaders' summit. He mentioned ongoing communications between Ukraine's Defense Ministry and international partners, adding that the White House had indicated a potential restoration of full services. Zelenskyy clarified that Ukraine does not use Starlink for deep-strike operations inside Russia but relies on it for interceptor drones against Russian drones. The restrictions also impact Ukraine's medium-range military strike capabilities.

Zelenskyy highlighted the use of Starlink-enabled drones for delivering supplies to Ukrainian personnel under threat from enemy drones. He also noted that Ukraine receives intelligence on Russian missile launches from the US and collaborates with other countries for intelligence sharing. Additionally, Ukraine receives air defense missiles through the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List initiative, with European countries funding these deliveries.

The Ukrainian president criticized a recent US-Russia diesel deal, emphasizing Kyiv was not informed beforehand. He proposed an energy ceasefire and sought anti-ballistic missiles from the US to protect energy infrastructure during the deal's duration, but has yet to receive a response. Zelenskyy also commented on former US President Donald Trump's remarks, stating negotiations with the US are easier than with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who shows no genuine interest in peace talks.

Zelenskyy warned against concessions on sanctions, fearing they might lead to broader agreements with Russia in various sectors. He emphasized the war with Russia extends beyond control of the Donbas region, asserting Ukraine's national existence is at stake. European countries, he said, recognize the risks posed by Russia and should continue their support for Kyiv.
