Britain’s Defense Secretary Advocates for Enhanced US-UK Alliance

Washington:British Defense Secretary Wes Streeting has called for enhanced cooperation between the United States and the United Kingdom, emphasizing the significance of their alliance and NATO in ensuring transatlantic security amidst new challenges.

According to Anadolu Agency, Streeting highlighted the critical timing for Britain and America to unite with bold and decisive actions during his address at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) think tank in Washington, DC.

Streeting stressed the enduring strategic partnership between the two nations, drawing from their shared history and the vital role transatlantic cooperation plays in maintaining peace and stability. Recalling the founding of NATO post-World War II, he noted that US security is inextricably linked with European security.

He urged allies to learn from history, pointing out that the cost of defending peace today is less than the cost of restoring it tomorrow. Streeting also emphasized the need for NATO members to adapt to modern warfare's evolving landscape, including the increased use of artificial intelligence, drones, cyber capabilities, and autonomous weapons.

Streeting argued that military strength now relies more on innovation, rapid production, and the capability to provide affordable and effective equipment to armed forces. He affirmed that the UK would primarily support European defense through NATO, reiterating Britain's leadership role and its ongoing efforts to enhance its contributions.
