Macron Criticizes Russia-US Diesel Deal as Ineffective

Paris:French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the US decision to import diesel from Russia "sends a negative message" and is unlikely to impact global prices.

According to Anadolu Agency, Macron remarked that the diesel volumes from Russia are already part of the global market and will not address market issues. He criticized the move as divisive and ineffective, noting it wouldn't impact President Trump. Macron plans to continue discussions with the US to find effective solutions for reducing energy prices.

Macron emphasized that measures other than the diesel deal are needed to lower fuel prices, stressing the importance of pursuing effective strategies. The US lifted sanctions on Russian diesel, with Russia promising to supply over 300,000 metric tons to the US and global markets.

Macron also addressed ongoing student protests in France, calling for calm and respect for the right to demonstrate while supporting government and security forces. He urged demonstrators to respect people and property.

On EU matters, Macron advocated for new revenue sources for the EU budget and opposed further cuts to the proposed European Competitiveness Fund, urging progress on own resources.

Expressing solidarity with Spain over the situation in Ceuta, Macron described the migration surge as an external attack and underscored the need for European unity.
