Turkey Calls for Global Action Against Israeli Violations

Rome:Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus urged the international community to address the ongoing Israeli violations of international law during a meeting of the European Conference of Presidents of Parliament. He emphasized the need for concrete action to uphold international law and highlighted the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

According to Anadolu Agency, Kurtulmus stressed that international silence in the face of these violations cannot continue. He described the situation in Gaza as a humanitarian catastrophe and genocide, urging the global community to recognize it as a challenge to humanity's conscience.

Kurtulmus further noted that Israeli aggression extends beyond Gaza, with ongoing issues of destruction, displacement, and violence in the West Bank, and threats to the sovereignty of countries like Syria and Lebanon. He called on parliaments worldwide to play an active role in ending the suffering in Gaza and addressing the breaches of international humanitarian law.

He emphasized the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in addressing these issues, suggesting that coordinated efforts by parliaments could bolster international law enforcement and address persistent violations. Kurtulmus also criticized the current international order for failing to prevent conflicts, citing the prolonged war between Russia and Ukraine and the situation in Gaza as examples.

He concluded by advocating for a more active role for parliaments in creating a fairer international order, arguing that relying solely on UN reform would be insufficient.
