Tehran:Iran's exports to Pakistan have been "temporarily" halted as a result of banking sanctions, although imports from Pakistan into Iran remain unaffected.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, Peyman Sanandaji, head of the Transportation Commission at the Tehran Chamber of Commerce, confirmed that the shared land border between the two nations is still open. He dismissed any claims about a border crossing closure.
Sanandaji explained that Pakistani importers are now required to use Pakistan's banking system to submit electronic import forms for goods purchased from Iran. However, sanctions on Iran's banking system have complicated this process, causing issues for both Iranian exporters and Pakistani importers.
He further warned that if these banking restrictions continue, the halt in Iranian exports to Pakistan would persist. Iran's banking sector faces extensive US sanctions that limit transactions with Iranian financial institutions and could subject foreign banks engaging with sanctioned Iranian entities to US punitive measures.
