Cairo:Egypt's parliament postponed its Sunday emergency session, which was convened to discuss the possibility of providing military support to Saudi Arabia.
According to Anadolu Agency, the session was adjourned with plans to reconvene on Monday, as reported by Egypt's Al Qahera News channel. However, no further details were disclosed about the upcoming session.
The emergency session was called at the request of Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi. On Saturday, El-Sisi stated that Cairo is prepared to take necessary actions to defend Saudi Arabia if requested by Riyadh.
The discussion arises as Saudi Arabia faces ongoing attacks from Yemen's Houthi group. The conflict in Yemen escalated in September 2014 when the Houthis seized the capital, Sanaa, and other regions, prompting a Saudi-led coalition to intervene in March 2015 in support of Yemen's internationally recognized government. A UN-brokered truce in April 2022 has since brought about years of relative calm.
