Houthis Target Yemen’s Al-Rayyan Airport for Fourth Time in Hours, Says Army

Mukalla:Yemen's army reported early Thursday that the Houthi group has targeted Al-Rayyan International Airport in Mukalla, the capital of Hadramout province, for the fourth time in just a few hours.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, the army's official spokesman, Maj. Gen. Majed al-Nuzaili, stated that the 'Houthi terrorist militia targeted Al-Rayyan International Airport in Mukalla for the fourth time.' This information was reported by September Net, a website affiliated with Yemen's Defense Ministry.

Maj. Gen. Nuzaili's statement indicated that the targeting of airports is an attempt to impose a blockade on the Yemeni people. Al-Rayyan is considered one of Yemen's most significant civilian airports, serving millions in Hadramout and other provinces. The Houthis have not immediately provided any comments on the attack.

On the previous day, the Houthis attacked the airport using three drones, marking the first such incident since military escalations resumed last July. Additionally, the state-run Saba channel reported a Houthi attack on Aden International Airport in southern Yemen with a ballistic missile, though details were scarce. Local residents reported hearing a loud explosion near the airport.

These events occur amidst the internationally recognized government's military offensive against the Houthis in southwestern Yemen. The country has been mired in conflict since the Houthis seized the capital, Sanaa, and other provinces in September 2014, leading to a Saudi-led coalition intervention in March 2015 to support the government.
