France to Restrict Non-Union Demonstrations Amid Unrest

Paris:France has declared a ban on demonstrations not organized by trade unions in response to recent unrest, especially targeting gatherings planned for this Saturday.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, President Emmanuel Macron stated that prefects will prohibit demonstration requests from groups lacking legitimacy. This decision follows a security council meeting and aims to maintain order.

Macron detailed that while trade unions can submit requests for demonstrations, these will be reviewed by prefects, who are government-appointed officials in various regions. Prefects may suggest alternative routes for union-organized demonstrations, but non-union demonstrations will be banned where possible to ensure public safety and protect property.

Macron acknowledged shortcomings in handling last weekend's protests over living costs and fuel prices, citing unexpected developments. He noted that preventative measures, including banning gatherings, demonstrations, and imposing curfews, have been implemented by prefects where necessary.

Furthermore, Macron mentioned ongoing investigations into political and seditious activities by far-left groups aiming to destabilize the government. He announced plans to convene a defense council on Friday to enhance preparations and make further decisions.
