Belgrade:Serbian citizens are set to head to the polls on Sunday to elect a new parliament, with approximately 6.5 million voters registered to participate. These elections will determine the composition of the 250-member National Assembly and influence which party or coalition will garner enough support to form the next government.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, the election campaign has been underscored by key political issues, including differing party stances on European Union membership, relations with Russia and Kosovo, and the overall political direction of Serbia. The ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), along with a student-backed list and various opposition coalitions, are competing for the parliamentary seats.
The campaign period has also been marked by international diplomatic tensions, as Serbia issued a protest note to Croatia over alleged interference in its domestic political matters and election proceedings. This incident, reported by local media on Wednesday, adds a layer of complexity to the already contentious electoral climate.
