Oleshky:Moscow Russia has expressed approval of U.S. First Lady Melania Trump's involvement in coordinating a truce for humanitarian purposes in the Russian-controlled city of Oleshky, located in Ukraine's Kherson region. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed this development on Friday, highlighting the efforts directed towards facilitating a ceasefire for humanitarian operations.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, Peskov mentioned that military officials are working on the coordination of the ceasefire to aid the humanitarian mission. He noted that those wishing to leave the town would be granted the opportunity to do so. The operation requires extensive preparations involving multiple parties, with Melania Trump serving a key coordinating role. The truce initiative was reportedly discussed in a recent phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump.
Peskov also addressed inquiries about the evacuation route, stating that details would be released by the Defense Ministry when deemed appropriate for public disclosure. While unable to predict the exact duration of the operation, he speculated that it would span at least several days.
In response to questions regarding the U.S. President's reported directive to restore Starlink capabilities over Ukrainian territory, Peskov clarified that military cooperation between the U.S. and Ukraine remains ongoing. Despite Ukraine's continued attempts to strike targets within Russia, Peskov emphasized that this has not hindered Moscow and Washington from collaborating on the humanitarian operation and negotiating intricate details.
Expressing gratitude towards the United States, Peskov acknowledged the significant contributions of both Melania Trump and President Trump in addressing humanitarian concerns. Earlier, Melania Trump had announced an accord between Russia and Ukraine to implement a temporary ceasefire in Oleshky, facilitating humanitarian aid deliveries and the evacuation of civilians who choose to leave. The ceasefire is slated to commence on October 29, as per information from the White House.
Under the proposed arrangement, civilian representatives from both nations will visit residents to assess their needs and provide necessary assistance. Those opting to evacuate will receive organized transportation to their chosen destinations, whether within Russia or Ukraine.
