Lutjegast:Bird flu has been detected at a poultry farm in Lutjegast, located in the northern Dutch province of Groningen. This discovery has led to the decision to cull 45,000 laying hens, as announced by the Dutch Agriculture Ministry.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, the outbreak is the first reported in the Netherlands since July. The affected farm in Lutjegast specializes in keeping laying hens, as noted by the regional broadcaster RTV NOF.
In response to the outbreak, authorities have imposed a transport ban within a 10-kilometer (6.2-mile) radius around the farm. This measure aims to prevent the spread of the virus and restricts the transport of birds, eggs, manure, and used bedding within the designated area, impacting parts of both Groningen and Friesland provinces.
The restricted zone encompasses 21 other agricultural businesses. Despite the outbreak, the Dutch Agriculture Ministry has stated that there is no current need for a nationwide or regional confinement requirement for poultry.
