Qatar Denies Allegations of Interfering in Israeli Elections

Doha:Qatar has firmly denied allegations that it interfered in Israel's recent elections or funded any activities aimed at influencing their outcome. Majed al-Ansari, adviser to the prime minister and spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, issued a statement on Thursday rejecting these claims.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, Ansari accused certain Israeli politicians and media figures of using Qatar as a "scapegoat" for their political failures and described the allegations as "ridiculous and dangerous."

The denial comes after Israeli politicians linked Qatar to suspected foreign interference in the election. This followed a request from Noam Sohlberg, chairman of the election committee, to the security agency Shin Bet to investigate suspicions of "hostile foreign interference" favoring Arab parties.

Ansari emphasized that any government formed after the election should uphold international law, adhere to UN resolutions, address the Palestinian issue, and respect Palestinians' right to self-determination and an independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He further stated that these allegations would not deter Qatar from continuing its mediation, diplomatic and humanitarian efforts, nor its support for the Palestinian people and regional stability.

The election results showed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's bloc securing 53 seats, compared to 48 for the opposition bloc led by Eisenkot, while Arab parties won a combined 19 seats. Neither of the main blocs achieved the 61 seats needed for a majority in the 120-member Knesset, positioning Arab lawmakers as potentially pivotal in government formation efforts. The elections took place earlier this week on October 27.
