UN Warehouse in Gaza’s Khan Younis Damaged by Debris from Israeli Airstrike

Khan Younis:Gaza A United Nations warehouse in Khan Younis, located within the Gaza Strip, was damaged by flying debris following a nearby Israeli airstrike, as reported by the UN on Thursday.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, UN spokesperson Shirin Yaseen addressed a news conference, revealing that the warehouse sustained damage but fortunately, no UN staff were injured. This information was corroborated by their safety and security partners.

Yaseen emphasized the need for scaling up services and called for the lifting of restrictions on the entry of humanitarian supplies, specialized equipment, engine oil, spare parts, and other necessary items. She also urged member states to provide additional funding to support aid efforts.

When questioned about UN communications with Israeli officials regarding humanitarian operation restrictions as winter approaches, Yaseen stated that contacts and channels remain open. She acknowledged that while aid is coming in, it is insufficient, and emphasized the necessity for all crossings to be open to meet the increasing demand, particularly for tents and blankets as winter nears.

Yaseen refrained from discussing detailed negotiations with Israeli officials but affirmed the UN's commitment to securing aid for those in need in light of the ongoing conflict. The situation has resulted in over 74,000 Palestinian deaths and more than 175,000 injuries since October 2023, with approximately 90% of Gaza's civilian infrastructure severely impacted.
