China Urges Political Resolution Following North Korea’s Cluster Warhead Test

Beijing:China has called for a political settlement to address growing tensions on the Korean Peninsula following North Korea's recent cluster warhead test. The Chinese government emphasized the need for peace and stability in the region, urging all involved parties to engage in dialogue.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning addressed the situation during a press conference in Beijing. She stressed the importance of identifying the root causes of issues on the Korean Peninsula and pursuing a political resolution to ease tensions.

Mao Ning's comments came in response to questions about North Korea's actions, which violate United Nations Security Council resolutions. She noted that North Korea, officially known as the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), has recently expressed its stance on the military activities of the United States, South Korea (Republic of Korea, or ROK), and Japan.

North Korea conducted a cluster warhead test on Saturday, targeting the combat applicability and destructive power of its tactical ballistic missile. The country's Ballistic Missile Systems Research Institute and Warhead Research Institute reported that the test confirmed the 'Type-2 standard cluster warhead' could devastate an area of approximately 12 to 13 hectares (29 to 32 acres) with 'ultra-high density.'

The Missile Administration characterized the test as part of ongoing scientific research to enhance the destructive capabilities of North Korea's weapons systems.
