Iran Outlines Conditions for Regional Security Amid Rising Tensions

Tehran:Iran's top military commander has declared that the country's armed forces are prepared to respond to any threat without "geographical limits" and has outlined five conditions for achieving lasting security in the region.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, Maj. Gen. Abdollahi, chief of staff of Iran's Armed Forces and commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, stated that both the material and non-material assets of Iran's adversaries are within reach of its military forces. He emphasized Iran's emergence as a "fourth center of global power," highlighting its control over the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial energy chokepoint.

Abdollahi detailed five conditions essential for regional security. The first condition involves ending wars on all fronts, particularly in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, while rejecting negotiations under military threats. The second condition demands lifting sanctions against Iran and releasing frozen Iranian assets. The third seeks compensation for war damages, positioning Iran as a "creditor rather than a debtor." The fourth calls for the recognition of Iran's sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz and replacing the US-led security framework with a "Hormuz mechanism." The fifth condition demands guarantees against renewed military attacks and the establishment of regional security arrangements.

These statements come amid ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States following the conflict initiated by Washington and Israel against Tehran on February 28. Iran has consistently called for the end of a US naval blockade and the removal of economic sanctions as part of diplomatic efforts.

On the same day, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, leading Tehran's negotiating team, announced that Iran had provided a "firm and rational" response to Washington. He noted that the US must decide whether to prevent another war, warning that any renewed military action by the US would provoke an "unpredictable" Iranian response without geographical limitations.
