Ibl al-Saqi:Beirut Lebanese media has reported incidents of Israeli artillery shelling and gunfire occurring in southern Lebanon, marking a violation of a US-mediated security agreement between Beirut and Tel Aviv.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, the state news agency NNA detailed that heavy Israeli artillery fire targeted the area surrounding a spring in the village of Ibl al-Saqi in Marjayoun district early on Monday. The attack resulted in more than 10 shells hitting the area. Additionally, Israeli artillery struck the towns of Mansouri and Majdal Zoun in Tyre, while machine-gun fire was directed toward the Hujeir and Saluki valleys, located between the Marjayoun, Bint Jbeil, and Nabatieh districts. An explosion was also reported in the town of Bani Hayyan in Marjayoun.
These incidents followed recent technical military talks between Lebanon and Israel held on October 20-21 in Tampa, Florida, under US sponsorship. Despite the lack of an announced breakthrough or joint statement from the talks, reports indicated that both sides agreed to continue meetings to address disputes over Israel's withdrawal from Lebanese territory and the disarmament of Hezbollah.
The US-sponsored framework agreement, established on June 26, called for a gradual Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territory in exchange for the deployment of the Lebanese army and the disarmament of armed groups. Nonetheless, Israel has persisted in its attacks on Lebanon, resulting in significant casualties and displacement since March 2. Israeli forces have occupied areas of southern Lebanon for varying durations, including advances up to 10 kilometers into Lebanese territory during recent conflicts.
