Eisenkot Criticizes Netanyahu’s Response to U.S. Aid Cutoff Announcement

Jerusalem:Yashar party leader Gadi Eisenkot expressed strong concerns over Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's handling of U.S.-Israel relations following President Donald Trump's declaration that security aid to Israel will end this year. Eisenkot described Netanyahu's conduct as posing a "real danger."

According to Anadolu Agency – English, Eisenkot's comments were made in response to Trump's announcement earlier that same day, where he stated the termination of U.S. financial assistance to Israel by the year's end. This decision was reportedly part of an agreement made with Netanyahu months prior.

The announcement caught many Israeli officials off guard. Israeli public broadcaster KAN reported that the Defense Ministry and military were surprised by Trump's statement. Additionally, Channel 12 noted that Israel's Finance Ministry was unaware of the planned halt in military aid until the announcement was made.

The U.S. assistance, amounting to $3.8 billion annually, was a critical component of Israel's defense budgets for 2027 and 2028. This funding was part of a memorandum of understanding signed in 2016, which committed the U.S. to provide Israel with $38 billion in military assistance over a decade, extending through 2028.
