Belarusian President Warns of Potential World War Due to Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Minsk:Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko warned that the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict might lead to a third world war if a resolution is not achieved. He emphasized the urgency of halting the escalation to prevent such a global catastrophe.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, Lukashenko, speaking at the 4th Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security, highlighted the risk of a nuclear conflict if the war continues. He praised U.S. President Donald Trump's efforts to end the conflict, suggesting that despite Trump's polarizing policies, his actions are preventing a third world war. Lukashenko suggested that Trump deserves recognition for possibly averting a nuclear conflict in Europe.

Lukashenko expressed optimism that the Russia-Ukraine war could conclude in the coming months due to increasing war fatigue. He offered Minsk as a venue for peace negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv, cautioning against any attempts to involve Belarus in the conflict.

The Belarusian leader also acknowledged the significance of the recent six-day ceasefire in the Russian-controlled city of Oleshky, Ukraine, and praised the efforts of human rights commissioners. Lukashenko called for expansion of such de-escalation efforts and the establishment of a sustainable development and security model in Eurasia.

Furthermore, Lukashenko criticized the current global reliance on the "law of force," particularly within the United Nations. He cautioned that the UN might face a fate similar to the League of Nations if it fails to prevent global conflicts.
