Riyadh:The Saudi-led coalition announced that it intercepted and destroyed a drone launched by the Houthis towards southern Saudi Arabia.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki confirmed the interception in an official statement. This incident marked the third drone interception reported by the coalition on the same day, with earlier announcements stating that drones were also destroyed in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province and the Mecca region.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree refuted claims of their involvement in any military operations against Saudi territory or specifically targeting the Mecca region on that day. The coalition's interceptions occur amidst increasing hostilities between the Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition, which supports Yemen's internationally recognized government.
The conflict traces back to March 2015, when Saudi Arabia began leading the military coalition against the Houthis after the group seized Yemen's capital, Sanaa, and other parts of the country in 2014.
