Adana: An additional Patriot missile defense system, deployed by NATO Allied Air Command in Ramstein, Germany, is now stationed in Turkey's southern province of Adana, as announced by the Turkish National Defense Ministry. This deployment comes alongside the existing Spanish Patriot system in the region.
According to Anadolu Agency, Ministry spokesperson Rear Adm. Zeki Akturk revealed the details during a press briefing at the 10th Main Jet Base Command in Incirlik, Adana. Akturk emphasized that the deployment of this additional system is part of a broader strategy to enhance national security and protect Turkish airspace and citizens.
Akturk highlighted a recent incident on March 13, where a ballistic projectile fired from Iran entered Turkey's airspace and was neutralized by NATO air and missile defense assets in the Eastern Mediterranean. He assured that Turkey is in continuous communication with Iran to fully understand the incident and is taking all necessary measures against any threats to national security.
The tensions in the Middle East have intensified following the joint offensive by the US and Israel on Iran on February 28, which resulted in approximately 1,300 casualties, including the death of then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Iran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and other countries in the region, causing further instability.
Addressing the ongoing conflict, Akturk criticized Israel for violating the ceasefire in Gaza and exerting pressure on the West Bank, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan. He reiterated Turkey's support for Lebanon's sovereignty and urged the international community to address the challenges faced by the Palestinian people.
In other developments, Akturk announced the departure of Turkish naval vessels TCG Goksu, TCG Bayraktar, TCG Bartin, and TCG Yuzbasi Gungor Durmus for Somalia on March 25, as part of the Somalia Naval Task Group activities. He also mentioned the upcoming Trkiye-Brazil Naval Forces Cooperation Meeting, scheduled to be held in Brazil from March 24-28.
Akturk further noted the addition of 'Super Simsek' aerial vehicles, developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries, to the Air Force inventory, highlighting Turkey's efforts to enhance its military capabilities. He also announced that Turkey's Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation has achieved the AS9100 Aerospace and Defense Quality Management System Certificate, aligning with global standards.
