Kabul: Interim Afghan Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi Sunday hosted his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi in Kabul for bilateral talks. It marked Araghchi's first visit to Kabul since his appointment last year.

According to Anadolu Agency, the discussions between the two sides focused on strengthening bilateral ties, with an emphasis on economic cooperation. Afghan Foreign Ministry spokesman Hafiz Zia stated that the talks also covered the situation of Afghan refugees in Iran, issues related to shared borders, and water resources.

Muttaqi expressed optimism about the outcomes of the meeting, noting that Araghchi's visit to Kabul could enhance the momentum in relations between the two countries and potentially usher in a new phase of bilateral cooperation. The interim administration, led by the Taliban, has been in place since 2021 following the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan.
