Kabul: An international agriculture conference commenced in Afghanistan's capital, Kabul, on Monday, aiming to propose viable solutions for enhancing agricultural development in the war-torn country with a focus on promoting self-sufficiency. According to Anadolu Agency, the conference, titled "Afghanistan's Green Revolution for Self-Reliance," has attracted agricultural experts, politicians, and industrialists from various countries, including Canada, Nigeria, Thailand, India, Pakistan, Qatar, Bangladesh, Egypt, Trkiye, and Iran, alongside Afghan officials. The event is organized by Kabul University and is a significant step towards revitalizing Afghanistan's agriculture sector, which has suffered extensive damage due to decades of conflict. During the opening session, Acting Higher Education Minister Sheikh Nidaa Mohammad Nadeem highlighted the concerted efforts being made to strengthen the country's agriculture. He emphasized the importance of collaboration with international experts to bring about subst antial improvements in the sector. The Taliban government's spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, also addressed the conference, stressing the need for 'positive' changes to ensure a 'successful' agricultural revolution in Afghanistan. Mujahid expressed optimism that with the 'right' support and expertise, the country could achieve significant advancements in agriculture. He also underscored the importance of holding more such conferences to foster dialogue and share knowledge among stakeholders in the agricultural sector.
