Ahmad Tibi Accuses Netanyahu of Seeking New Elections to Cling to Power

Jerusalem:Ahmad Tibi, head of the Joint Arab List's parliamentary bloc in Israel's Knesset, has accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of aiming for another election to maintain his grip on power. Tibi is urging opposition parties to counteract Netanyahu's plans by forming a government led by Yashar party leader Gadi Eisenkot.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, Tibi believes Netanyahu intends to continue leading a caretaker government while planning a coordinated military action against Iran with US President Donald Trump. Tibi stated that Netanyahu desires another election and plans to launch a war against Iran after the US midterm elections, before calling for another vote.

Tibi stressed the importance of the opposition acting quickly to prevent Netanyahu's scenario from unfolding. He indicated that the Joint Arab List is prepared to assist in forming a new government but does not wish to join the coalition. Instead, they aim to support the establishment of an alternative government through agreements with opposition parties.

The recent parliamentary elections saw high turnout among Arab voters, an achievement Tibi credits with obstructing Netanyahu's chance to secure another majority. He highlighted that Arab voter participation hindered far-right politicians, including Itamar Ben-Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, from regaining power.

Tibi also rejected allegations of election fraud from Netanyahu's political allies and stated that the accusations were part of a campaign against Arab voters. He reiterated the importance of Arab participation, which he believes disrupted Netanyahu's plans.

In response to criticism from Netanyahu about a visit to Qatar, Tibi dismissed the allegations, emphasizing his commitment to his political responsibilities. He also expressed openness to coordinating with the United Arab List to achieve the common goal of forming an alternative government.

The recent elections left neither Netanyahu's bloc nor the opposition with a clear majority, positioning Arab parties as potential key players in the upcoming government formation negotiations. The official election results are pending, with President Isaac Herzog expected to consult with parliamentary factions before appointing a lawmaker to form a new government.
