Baku: Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Thursday underscored the necessity for the nation to maintain a state of preparedness for war at any given moment, emphasizing that national security is contingent upon the state, its citizens, and the armed forces.

According to Anadolu Agency, Aliyev, during his visit to the Kalbajar region, asserted the critical role of the armed forces in safeguarding the nation's interests and security continuously. He highlighted the vigilance of Azerbaijan's military in monitoring potential threats, stating that the country has significantly bolstered its military capabilities since the 2020 Second Karabakh War. The enhancements include a substantial increase in special forces personnel and the establishment of new commando units.

Aliyev detailed advancements in Azerbaijan's military arsenal, noting the acquisition of modern drones, upgraded artillery systems, and combat aircraft. He also mentioned ongoing contracts for new fighter jets, reinforcing the nation's defense posture. "We must always be ready for war, because the course of global developments makes it impossible to predict what will happen tomorrow," Aliyev remarked, signaling the unpredictability of global events.

The president further issued a stern warning to potential provocateurs, asserting that any aggression against Azerbaijan would result in regret, reiterating the nation's victorious stance. In addition to military readiness, Aliyev discussed developments in regional connectivity, specifically a transport corridor through Armenia that will link Azerbaijan to its exclave of Nakhchivan.

Aliyev expressed optimism regarding the peace treaty with Armenia, mentioning Armenia's commitments to the agreement. He anticipates that in the coming years, Azerbaijanis will be able to travel by train and car between the main part of Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan. He also noted that the new route would serve as an international transport corridor, with the railway to Zangilan expected to be completed next year, marking a significant milestone in regional connectivity efforts.
