Baghdad:Five members of Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces sustained injuries following an explosion of damaged ammunition at one of their facilities in Baghdad. The incident occurred on Saturday and led to a fire at the site, located east of the Army Canal. The fire was eventually brought under control.
According to Anadolu Agency, the group reported that the injuries were minor and that specialized teams have begun investigating the cause of the explosion. The findings of this inquiry will be disclosed once the investigation is completed.
In response to the incident, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi has ordered an investigation and urged for its swift completion. He also emphasized the need for enhanced safety measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future. The Popular Mobilization Forces, initially established in 2014 to combat ISIS, became a formal part of Iraq's armed forces in 2016.
