ANKARA: Anadolu has opened voting for its 'Images of the Year' contest, showcasing 140 powerful photographs that encapsulate significant global events from 2024. The competition, supported by Turkish defense firm ROKETSAN and Sony, invites global participation with images taken by Anadolu photojournalists across various countries.

According to Anadolu Agency, the images were meticulously chosen by editors from over 1 million photos captured worldwide, featuring locations such as Trkiye, the US, Pakistan, Ukraine, Gaza, Iceland, Peru, and Kenya. Each image is presented with captions in both Turkish and English, ensuring broad accessibility and understanding.

A notable addition to this year's contest is the "Free Syria" category, which includes 21 images that document the aftermath of Syria's Baath regime collapse and the fall of the Assad family's rule. The mainstay categories of the competition are Natural Life and Environment, Daily Life, News, and Sports, comprising 24, 26, 41, and 28 photos respectively.

Participants have the opportunity to vote for multiple images, reflecting the diverse interests and perspectives of the global audience. Since its launch in 2012, the contest has drawn hundreds of thousands of voters, including notable figures such as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, along with ministers, politicians, athletes, and artists.

Last year's competition engaged 869,591 voters, showcasing its wide-reaching appeal. This year's voting remains open until 5 p.m. on January 31, 2025, and can be accessed via the website 'yilinkareleri.aa.com.tr.'
