The annual Perseids meteor shower is underway and this beautiful celestial phenomenon will peak on the weekend 12 and 13 of August. According to astrophysisict Chrystanthos Fakas, in addition to the meteor shower, August will have two full moons, on the 1st and on the 31st of August, noting that when a month has two full moons, the second one is called a "blue moon". Regarding the Perseids, he notes that this celestial phenomenon began on the 17th of July and will last until the 24th of August. To watch the meteor shower, one should look at the night sky preferably after 23h with a north-east direction. The Astronomical Society of Cyprus is organising an event on Saturday 12 of August in Kypernounta village between 2100-2300 to watch the night sky.
